Of Hannah Hasan’s greatest gifts is her ability to see people and to understand the power of community.

Hannah Hasan is an award-winning poet, speaker, playwright, theatre producer, and cultural organizer. Her work has been recognized through multiple awards, acknowledgments, fellowships, grants, and artistic residencies throughout her career. Her writing and performances are rooted in themes of home, community, political engagement, Blackness, social justice, faith, womanhood, and more. Hannah is the Co-Founder of Epoch Tribe, a theatre production and consulting company devoted to centering Black voices and cultivating spaces of connection, care, and collective imagination. Through live, original performance and facilitation, Hannah’s work invites audiences into moments of reflection that feel intimate, expansive, and deeply human. As a poet, Hannah writes and performs from the innermost parts of her soul. She is often commissioned to use poetry to write the stories of organizations, events, and projects that are carving out spaces of belonging in the world. Hannah is also the co- creator of I Am Queen, a live theatrical production that uplifts the stories of Black women in the South. This work is grounded in legacy building and joy, honoring the fullness of Black womanhood while creating room for truth telling, celebration, and collective remembrance. Guided by her faith, family, and pursuit of freedom, Hannah approaches her artistry as an offering. She creates with the belief that words can hold us, art can heal us, and storytelling can reconnect us to ourselves and to one another. Hannah is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University and Full Sail University, and she lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband Jamaal.

Notable Works

At the core of Hannah’s artistry is her passion and drive to push our community forward through theatre. Alongside her sister, Shardae, Hannah founded Epoch Tribe in 2018 as an organization devoted to bringing real community stories to some of the biggest stages across the South.

Through Epoch Tribe came I Am Queen, a stage play written and co-produced by Hannah. The production began with a Charlotte iteration, where Hannah drew from interviews with Black women who live in, come from, and call Charlotte home to create the play. I Am Queen: Charlotte was performed three times in Charlotte before I am Queen: Nashville was most recently presented in Nashville, Tennessee.
